Sinus Lifts in Oakville

A sinus lift procedure is commonly required when implants are being planned for the upper molar region. Everyone has maxillary sinuses that sit just above the maxillary molars, and in many instances, the sinus sits a little too low and interferes with implant placement.

As the sinus is a hollow cavity, when an implant is being placed, a tip of that implant may enter the sinus. This means that the portion of the implant, won’t be surrounded by bone, which may affect the stability of the implant. As such, a sinus lift procedure is performed to “lift” the floor of the sinus and effectively create more bone for the implant.

These procedures are completed in 2 different ways. The first is with placement of the implant, while the second method involves performing the sinus lift first, allowing the area to heal, then placing the implant at a later date. Which of these two methods is chosen will depend on the amount of existing bone beforehand, and is something your periodontist can discuss with you.
